CNAME do not work :-(

  1. afmenemy said 1 year ago

    Hi There,

I have my domaine at one.com

    I made a CNAME called -> shop.gosia.dk -> gosia.bigcartel.com

It do not work? Should i disable some of the other CNAMES? There is one called: stats.gosia.dk & logs.gosia.dk?

in the dns there is allso 8 lines with an A, such as www.gosia.dk - so should i do something with this so that i can make it point directly to : gosia.bigcartel.com?

I tried the web chat support with one.com - but they dont know that much :-(

Hope someone in here can help a rookie :-)

    Thx

    Jean

It looks like shop.gosia.dk is pointing to your store, so now you just need to enter shop.gosia.dk in the Domain field on the Store > Settings page of your admin.

    hey,

    thx for the answer -
the problem now is that if i type: www.gosia.dk - it dosent go to my shop at bigcartell...but if i type: shop.gosia.dk in the browser im there....so what do i need to do so that if i type: www.gosia.dk it goes the right way:-)

must be some thing at my DNS settings right?

    thx again

If you want "www" instead of "shop", then change the "shop" CNAME to "www" and remove the "www" A record.

I'm having the same problem as the gentleman above. I added the Cname but when I type www.prayandgo.com or prayandgo.com, it takes me to doteasy.com which is my web hosting.

If you added the CNAME in the last few hours, it probably just needs more time to go into effect.

Otherwise, there might be an A record that is overriding your CNAME. DotEasy should be able to help you with that.

You are right, it may need more time to go into effect, but I went back to the DNS section of DotEasy and there are 2 A Records. Both reveal the same thing, source: prayandgo.com - Destination: DOTEASY IP ADDRESS. I'm not sure if this could be the problem.

    Thank again.

    Hi,

I have my domain name registered with godaddy.com through Google Apps. It was registered more than 48 hours ago and so I thought if I did anything wrong with the CNAME entry. Store domain has already been set up in the BigCartel dashboard.

    In godaddy.com account management panel:
    It is now www.plingstore.com > pling.bigcartel.com.

Under CNAME record, there is another entry www > ghs.google.com. I do not delete this right?

Under A record, there are 4 entries of @ > IP address.

Am I doing something wrong? Would appreciate your help.

You'll probably want to remove the other www entry since it'll interfere.

I tried to change my CNAME (my domain is purchased from godaddy.com) and now my address takes me to a godaddy sponsored site.

You may want to ask GoDaddy for help setting this up, since they'll have access to your DNS records. You can show them our instructions if you're not sure how to explain it.

    Alright thanks.

    Thanks for your advice!

Finally got it to work within the hour after visiting some other forums.

Just need to change the entry with alias name www to point to pling.bigcartel.com, i.e,
    ORIGINAL: www > ghs.google.com
    NOW: www > pling.bigcartel.com

Did another CNAME entry to point plingstore.com to my bigcartel store.
    plingstore.com > ghs.google.com

    All done and running! :)
